Africa-Press – Angola. The National Women’s U-18 Handball Team will face Japan on Wednesday (29) in their opening match at the World Championship of the category happening in Romania, in the Traian Sport Pavillion, venue for all the games.
The national team traveled to the competition venue on Monday, aiming to improve upon the 26th-place finish achieved in the previous edition.
Angola will also face Slovakia on July 30 and, subsequently, Brazil on August 1, to conclude the first phase.
Célia dos Santos coaches the team and concluded the squad’s preparations on Saturday with a 22–20 victory over Petro de Luanda.
Amália Bezerra and Catila Saia (goalkeepers), Jacilda Carlos, Jordânia Kizunga, Benilde Soares, Isabel Ambrósio, and Hendrivânia Paulo (backcourt players), Carolina Henriques and Natália Garcia (playmakers), Elisa Kanekulobe, Alic Íssolo, Domingas Bandeira, and Conceição Alexandre (wingers) and Tuluete Carlos and Germana Lubiengue (pivots), are the selected players to representing Angola.
The country’s last appearance in the world competition was in 2024 in China.
However, this will be the Angolan national team’s eighth appearance in a tournament of this kind. Their best finish to date is eighth place, achieved in the 2008 edition held in Slovakia.
