Africa-Press – Angola. Angola beat Lesotho 3–1 on Wednesday in the first round of Group A of the COSAFA Women’s Football Cup at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in South Africa.

Cristina scored in the 39th minute, Maria Vieira in the 43rd minute and Ary in the 54th minute for the Angolan team, while Lesotho’s consolation goal was scored by Moalosi in the 53rd minute.

The Angolan team now has three points and is provisionally in first place in the group, ahead of the second match between South Africa and Malawi, which starts at 2 pm.

The tournament runs until 1 March and on Thursday there are Group B matches scheduled: Eswatini vs. Zimbabwe at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and Zambia vs. Botswana.

Group C enters the competition on Friday with a match between Mozambique and Namibia at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Madagascar are resting due to scheduling conflicts.

The winners of the three groups and the best second-placed team in the overall standings will qualify for the semi-finals.

Zambia is the defending champions.

Angola’s best result in this type of competition is second place, which they achieved in the 2008 edition that they hosted.
