Africa-Press – Angola. Angola reaffirmed on Tuesday in Durban, South Africa, its position on transforming the Southern African Development Community (SADC )Parliamentary Forum into a regional parliament.
The position was presented by MP Pedro Sebastião, during at the 58th Plenary Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum.
The MP explained that Angola wants a body “endowed with full political and functional autonomy, effective capacity to oversee regional policies, legislative initiative in matters of integration and active participation in defining the Community’s strategic priorities.”
Pedro Sebastião added that only a strong regional parliament, legitimized by citizens, will allow the consolidation of democratic pillars and accelerate the regional integration process.
He also reported that Angola has sent an official confirmation of its position to regional authorities through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Democratic governance and national progress
In the National Report, the deputy highlighted the progress made by Angola in implementation of the Health, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, HIV/AIDS and Governance Project, which empowered deputies, promoted community actions and launched prevention initiatives aimed at children, adolescents and young people at risk.
The Mp highlighted the progress made in public health, with the expansion of the health network, laboratory reinforcement, vaccination campaigns, including HPV, and the construction of new reference hospitals.
In the education sector, he highlighted the expansion of the school network, teacher training, the school feeding program and curricular harmonization oriented towards areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
