Africa-Press – Angola. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Adão de Almeida, met on Monday in Durban, South Africa, with his Mozambican counterpart, Margarida Talapa, to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the parliaments of the two Portuguese speaking countries.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 58th Plenary Session of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum, the parties revisited the agenda of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) Parliamentary Assembly (PA-CPLP) and reaffirmed the commitments made within the framework of the organization.
Angola, as the host country hosting the Permanent Secretariat, reiterated the continuity of the work and the preparation for the Plenary Assembly scheduled for 2026.
The two leaders also addressed the need to harmonize positions in international forums, such as the SADC Parliamentary Forum, the PA-CPLP, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), advocating for prior consultations to ensure concerted positions.
On that occasion, Margarida Talapa took the opportunity to officially invite Adão de Almeida to make his first official visit to Mozambique in 2026, in his capacity as leader of the Angolan Parliament.
It is important to highlight that, on the same day, the Angolan delegation participated in the Symposium on the impact of climate change on women and youth, held within the framework of the 58th Plenary Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (PF).
The event analyzed the effects of climate disasters on vulnerable groups, such as the role of women in family support and the impact of unemployment exacerbated by drought and floods on rural youth.
