Africa-Press – Angola. A memorandum of understanding will be signed this month between the Angola – United Arab Emirates Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Abu Dhabi Chamber, with a view to strengthening cooperation.

The commitment was assumed in the political and administrative capital of the Emirates, on the sidelines of the annual investment meeting (AIM), held from the 8th to the 10th of this month, according to a press release sent.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Angola – United Arab Emirates, represented by its president, Bráulio Martins, and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, led by its president, Ali Saeed Bin Al Dhaheri, are committed to promoting, supporting and boosting diversification strategies and new businesses at Sociedade Mineira de Catoca.

The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce expressed interest in the mining and green energy sectors, with a special focus on solar energy.

The parties also pledged to work to promote the second edition of the GBA (Global Business Forum Angola), in the Angolan capital, which will include, this year, the sectors of agribusiness and carbon credits, diamonds, gold, oil and gas, tourism and real estate, as part of its strategy for economic and business events.

As well as the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, the Angolan delegation held a meeting, on 11 May, with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, with the support of this business association for the opening of a representative office for Catoca in Dubai.

Diplomatic relations between Angola and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were established on 11 December 1997, with the Angolan diplomatic representation in Abu Dhabi being opened on 21 September 2008, while that of the UAE in Luanda was opened on 1 August 2016.

The two countries enjoy active economic cooperation. Bilateral trade reached US$1.9 million in June 2020, and trade between the two has increased since 2004, involving a wide range of goods and raw materials, such as ornamental stones, diamonds, oil and other minerals.
