Africa-Press – Angola. The launch of ANGOSAT-2, on October 12, 2022, is among the reasons for choosing Luanda to host, from April 2 to 5, the III edition of the Africa Space Conference 2024 (in English-New Space Africa Conference 2024).

The information comes from the conference spokesperson, Gilberto Gomes, who spoke this Wednesday, at a press conference, for further clarification on the New Space Africa Conference 2024.

For the representative of the National Space Program Management Office ( GGPN ), the Angolan Government’s investments in the space sector, with products and solutions developed since 2016, have attracted international attention.

Therefore, he said, these efforts by the Government allowed Angola to be present on several international platforms for discussions in the area of ​​space, such as the Committee for the Area of ​​Peaceful Exploration of Outer Space, a United Nations body.

He also pointed out that Angola was also admitted to the International Astronautical Conference, as well as, with the departure of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in December 2023, to the United States of America, an agreement was signed with Artemis, a space flight program, becoming the 33rd nation to join the program.

Gilberto Gomes made it known that in the III edition of the Africa Space Conference 2024, the American Space Agency (NASA), the largest in the world in the sector, will participate, for the first time, to exhibit.

In turn, the general director of the company Space in Africa, Temidayo Oniosun, acknowledged that they are proud of the performance and technologies that Angola has used to solve problems and believes that GGPN is in a position to develop much more.

The Space Conference, organized by the African Union, expects the participation of 400 people, 51 organizations from 44 countries and four continents, including space agencies, companies and startups.

It will provide dialogue between politicians, the biggest leaders and actors in the area, businesspeople, players in the space industry, sharing ideas for opportunities and consequently space development in Africa, with exhibitions, main panels and networking.

The event, valued at more than USD 100 million (one dollar is worth kz 832,633), will highlight the transformative potential of space initiatives in addressing socioeconomic disparity in Africa.

The National Space Program Management Office is responsible for managing projects that result in strong strides in the space industry and in the satellite communication sector.

The United Nations 20/30 and African 20/63 agendas recommend the pursuit of space technology to achieve various technological goals.

The first edition of the Africa Space Conference was held in Kenya and the second in Côte d Ivoire.
