Africa-Press – Angola. Telecommunications connectivity between Angola and South Africa changes to high-speed access, with the new terrestrial fiber route, which connects Luanda (Angola) and Johannesburg (South Africa), announced the national telephone company Angola Telecom and its African counterpart Liquid Dataport.

The new fiber optic route, which crosses Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa, is the result of a partnership between a pan-African technology group known as “Liquid Intelligent Technologies (Liquid Dataport) , and Angola Telecom, the main fixed network operator in Angola.

A press note to which press had access explains that the emergence of this route constitutes, for Liquid Dataport, a significant addition to its current network of 110,000 kilometers, providing its regional customers with access to high-speed connectivity at accessible costs.

The partnership between Angola Telecom and Liquid Dataport, says the document, also allows access to perfect connectivity with other countries in the Common Market of Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and South Africa.

The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, speaking about the new fiber optic route, said that, in the last 25 years, the country has made significant investments in the telecommunications sector, which includes terrestrial, submarine and even by satellite.

“We understand the crucial role played by Public Private Partnerships (PPP), which is why we have new laws in place that support and provide attractive incentives for international players such as Liquid Dataport, which help drive our focus for the modernization of Angola, oriented towards Information Technology (IT)” said the minister, quoted in the press note.

The chairman of the Board of Directors of Angola Telecom, Adilson dos Santos, indicated that this partnership is the result of a conscious effort, one that, currently, the use of the Internet in Angola is only five million people and falls short of the envisaged objectives. by the sector.

“Angola Telecom and Liquid Dataport have managed to work together for more than two years, as we are working towards a common objective”, he maintained.

Adilson dos Santos stressed that, through the National Rural Telecommunications Plan, the new fiber optic route will allow connectivity to be available to all citizens, including in the most remote parts of the country

“We are excited to see the fruits of this partnership lead to an increase in the contribution of the Telecommunications and Information Technology (ICT) sector at national level, in the region and for the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” he underlined.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Liquid Dataport, David Eurin, said that the institution’s investment in this next-generation route is in line with the broader vision of establishing an extensive network of fiber routes across Africa .

“With an impressive network, which spans several countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Nigeria, the company is working towards a connected Africa that fuels innovation, drives economic growth and promotes socio-economic development”, he stressed. .
