Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan representation occupied the eighth (8th) position in the Billie Jean King Cup tournament, Africa group IV zone, in women’s tennis, played from the 5th to the 10th of this month, in Kigali, Rwanda, won by the Malagasy.

In this, their first participation in the competition on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) calendar, the three players from the Kikuxi Villas Club Academy, in Luanda, led by coach João Almeida, alternated between victories and defeats, in singles matches and peers.

For example, in a Portuguese-speaking match, tennis players Gabriela Martins, Mariana Costa and Miriam Tuluca won, with some difficulties, their Mozambican opponents, in the pairs tiebreaker.

In the final ranking of the competition, which involved 11 African countries, Angola ranked above Lesotho, Mozambique and Congo Brazzaville.

Overall, Madagascar is the leader, followed by Tanzania, Cameroon, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique and Congo Brazzaville.

This is the first presence of Angola in this event, which takes place in continental areas by the ITF.

Remember, about 15 years ago, there was an intention for the Angolan team to participate in this Cup.
