Angola LNG Plant Shuts down for General Maintenance in July

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angola LNG Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing plant, located in the municipality of Soyo, Zaire province, will temporarily halt operations on July 1 for general maintenance work expected to last 32 days.

The information was disclosed on Monday by the deputy municipal administrator of Soyo for the technical Aarea, infrastructure and community services, Adelino Kai.

Adelino Kai said that this will be the third general shutdown since the plant began operating in 2012, following those carried out in 2018 and 2022, fulfilling a four-year maintenance cycle.

The deputy director assured that he had received guarantees that the company had prepared an environmental management contingency plan, aimed at preventing any air pollution resulting from the burning of some of the gas supplied to the plant during the intervention period.

He explained that this is a necessary process to ensure greater performance, reliability and safety of the equipment, guaranteeing better levels of operability of the unit and that a joint commission was created to monitor this stage of the production shutdown.

The Angola LNG plant has an installed capacity to produce up to 5.2 million tons of LNG per year.

Currently, average production is at about 70 percent of operational capacity, equivalent to approximately 700 million cubic feet of gas per day, with peak production expected later this year.

The Angola LNG project includes the companies Chevron, TotalEnergies and Sonangol.
