The President of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, traveled this Sunday to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to participate in the 14th Conference of Presidents of Assemblies and Sessions of the African Region of the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly (APF), which will take place from the 3rd to the 5th of this month.
Speaking to the press, Carolina Cerqueira said that the Angolan parliamentary delegation would take advantage of the event to promote parliamentary diplomacy, taking into account the 147th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IUP) to take place in October this year, in Luanda.
Carolina Cerqueira also mentioned the fact that Angola has points in common with neighboring Francophone countries, highlighting issues related to peace efforts, sustainable development, climate change and social integration.
The Angolan parliamentary leader advanced that they also carry a message of a multi-party parliament, of coexistence, dialogue and where consensus prevails, with generational and gender balance.
The delegation, he said, will also transmit information on the involvement of the National Assembly in the pacification process of the Great Lakes region, which has President João Lourenço as the main mediator.
The Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly aims to represent the interests and aspirations of the people of the Francophone community with the Francophone, to promote democracy, the rule of law and human rights, particularly within the Francophone community, to bring a political perspective to the Francophone authorities and convey opinions in agreement with the Francophonie authorities.
