Africa-Press – Angola. The Permanent Mission of Angola to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, presented the report of the 11th multi-annual meeting of experts on trade, services and development. According to a note sent to JA Online, the document was presented at the 15th Session of the Commission on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which runs until Wednesday in that country.
The report states that “the creative industries contribute about 3.1% to global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 6.2% to global employment.”
In developing countries, creative services grew from 10% to 20% between 2010 and 2022, which shows significant progress”, despite facing obstacles such as inadequate infrastructure, limited access to data, digital divides and high regulatory barriers, which make it difficult for them to participate in the global creative economy. It adds that the concentration of the market by large companies from developed countries, fears of job displacement and cultural and intellectual property issues also pose challenges.
The Angolan representation in that country stressed the importance of the role of the creative economy in sustainable development, taking into account its capacity to generate income, foster innovation and promote cultural exchange.
The document presented by Angola highlights that, following the work carried out for the 15th Session of the UN Commission on Trade and Development, the Secretariat of the body is developing the booklet on data for trade in services and development policies, with the aim of finalizing it before the 16th meeting of UNCTAD.
