Africa-Press – Angola. The minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said on Sunday (19) in Aswan, Egypt, that Angola is stepping up efforts toward building “the Africa we want,” an Africa that is connected, integrated, and confident in its identity.
The minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 5th Edition of the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development, which runs until Monday (20), in that tourist and commercial city in southern Egypt, in his capacity as Head of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU).
According to Téte António, Africa faces multiple challenges, with the persistence of wars in Europe, the Middle East, and the Sahel, as well as growing climate emergencies.
He highlighted that the continent continues to demonstrate that dialogue is the best path to achieving peace, focusing on prevention, inclusion, and good governance, rather than division and domination.
“This is the moment for Africa to awaken, to speak out, not as a continent on the margins of history, but as a central player in building a new global balance based on justice, respect, and shared prosperity,” He stated.
The Head of the AU Executive Council also noted that Africa finds itself at a global crossroads, confronted with shifting alliances, the exploitation of interdependence, and the erosion of trust in the multilateral order.
He emphasized, however, that Africans are heirs to a history of resilience, marked by the struggle against slavery, colonialism, debt, and structural inequalities, which empowers them to build African solutions to African challenges.
During the opening ceremony, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, President of Egypt, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Hamza Abdi Barre, Somalian Prime Minister, all delivered messages of peace, unity, and reconciliation for an Africa without war.
The 5th Edition of the Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development goes under the theme of innovation and strategic planning to address the continent’s most pressing peace, humanitarian, and development challenges, with a focus on the empowerment of women and youth.
The meeting also seeks to strengthen dialogue between global and regional stakeholders, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen Africa’s strategic partnerships with the rest of the world, with a view to reshaping global governance and promoting inclusive growth.
