Africa-Press – Angola. TAAG Angolan Airlines inaugurated the first international flights at Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) on Sunday, with the landing of its first regional passenger flight carrying 97 passengers.
The aircraft landed safely at 3:30 a.m. local time (2:30 a.m. GMT) and was greeted with applause from dozens of airport and company employees who welcomed the travelers.
Shortly after, flights arrived from Lagos, Nigeria’s second city, carrying 68 passengers, from Lisbon, carrying 279 passengers; and from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, carrying 83 passengers.
The flight from Lisbon, which used a Boeing 777 (Triple Seven) aircraft, was the Angolan carrier’s first intercontinental passenger flight and landed at 6:35 a.m.
According to the Temporary Airport Operator, this operation marks the airport’s entry into a new phase, as it will now receive the entire international network.
This transition marks the complete transfer of the national flag carrier’s operations to the new infrastructure, which has demonstrated full operational and technological capacity since its activation.
The Temporary Airport Operator adds that this stage marks a historic and decisive moment in the operational transition process from 4 de Fevereiro Airport to Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport. This symbolizes the culmination of coordinated work between various public and private entities under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport.
Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport is fully operational with all technological and operational systems activated and rigorously meeting international safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
The infrastructure was designed to provide a world-class travel experience from arrival to boarding by combining comfort, technology, and hospitality.
