Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to Kenya, Sianga Abílio, reiterated this Thursday, in Nairobi, the country’s willingness to continue to actively participate in pacification efforts in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to the diplomat at the opening of the 35th Meeting of the Technical Support Committee of the Regional Supervision Mechanism of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Angola, among other reasons, considers this to be a determining factor for the pacification of the Great Lakes region in general.
In his speech, Sianga Abílio summarized the actions carried out by Angola in the last six months, and highlighted the role of President João Lourenço, as champion of the African Union for peace and reconciliation in Africa.
He highlighted Angola’s efforts in seeking peace in the East of the DRC and for rapprochement between the leadership of that country and Rwanda.
The 35th Meeting of the Technical Support Committee of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Security and Cooperation for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Great Lakes Region began thursday and ends on Friday.
The agenda of the meeting includes topics such as assessing the evolution of the situation in the region since May 2023, when the last meeting of the Technical Group took place, in Bujumbura (Burundi).
Participants will also define proposals for the revitalization of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Security and Cooperation for the DRC and the Great Lakes Region, to make its implementation more effective in the search for peace.
The meeting will also focus on the preparatory process for the next summit of the Regional Supervisory Mechanism of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Security and Cooperation, to be held in Uganda, on a date to be announced.
