Africa-Press – Angola. Angola maintains a firm and unequivocal position against female genital mutilation, the secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Antónia Osvaldina Simão da Cruz Yaba, declared on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland.
The official, was speaking at the High-Level Segment of the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, highlighted the fact that the Angolan State recognizes the growing role of new and emerging digital technologies as important tools in the prevention and elimination of female genital mutilation.
The secretary of State also pointed out the Presidential Decree No. 222-3 of December 24, which approves the National Policy for Gender Equality and Care, establishing rules on the protection of women and girls.
At the time, Angola reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to global and regional efforts aimed at eliminating this practice and supporting initiatives that promote the dignity, health, well-being and fundamental rights of all women and girls.
The event brings together Heads of State and Government, Foreign Ministers and senior officials from international organizations, with the aim of strengthening multilateral dialogue on the promotion and protection of human rights, assessing the implementation of previously adopted resolutions and discussing emerging challenges.
It also includes peacebuilding, the impact of climate change on human rights, gender equality, combating racism and discrimination, as well as strengthening mechanisms for technical cooperation and assistance to States.
Angola’s participation in the High-Level Segment of the 61st Session of the Human Rights Council reaffirms its active role in the multilateral system, as well as its commitment to the defence and promotion of human rights at the regional and global levels.
