Africa-Press – Angola. The 2nd Ministerial Conference of UN Tourism and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), held from the 22nd to the 24th of July in Luanda, reinforces Angola’s position as a leader in organizing major continental and international events.
According to the event’s spokesperson, Augusto Kalikemala, the country once again demonstrated its capacity to organize high-level, global events, a capacity supported by its growing hotel network and conference rooms that meet the technical demands of modernity.
The Secretary of State for Tourism also stated that holding such conferences in Angola promotes business tourism, transforming the country’s capital into a hub for business, leisure, and tourism.
Regarding the event’s results, he considered them satisfactory, fostering constructive discussions to improve tourism and air transport in Africa, resulting in the drafting of the Luanda Declaration, a document that reinforces several protocols and the political decisions made at the conference. He added that this organization also highlights Angola’s openness to tourism and air travel, an initiative that needs to be followed by other countries to elevate the continent to the top of the world.
For three days, participants at the event, which brought together more than 500 delegates, including experts and operators from the tourism and air transport sectors, discussed topics related to the challenges and solutions for boosting inter-African tourism.
The event’s fundamental objective was to identify integrative solutions that facilitate the development of these two critical components of the African economy, within the framework of the Open Sky Initiative.
The Conference also aimed to outline a shared vision for building resilient and sustainable tourism and air transport systems in Africa. The 2nd UN Tourism and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Ministerial Conference on Tourism and Air Transport in Africa took place exactly one month after the Angolan capital hosted the 17th US-Africa Business Summit, which took place from June 22 to 25, 2025.
This November, Luanda will once again be the center of global attention when it hosts the 7th European Union-Africa Summit, a fact recently confirmed in Rome, Italy, by European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen.
Among the various topics that will dominate this Summit, peace, security, human mobility, and migration stand out.
