Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, reaffirmed (18) in Shanghai, China, the government’s continued investment in the training and empowerment of Angolan women.

According to the official, who was reviewing her working visit to Shanghai, where she was invited to participate in the 8th Annual Taihua Cultural Conference, it is important to increasingly ensure women’s access to land, especially regarding the development of rural women.

She also advocated for women’s access to the market, finance, and credit, so they can undertake ventures, have more income, and consequently, a better quality of life.

She considered that the empowerment of women is not only a matter of social justice, but also a lever to ensure a better contribution from this segment of society to sustainable development.

To that end, she recalled that the Angolan Executive is developing a set of programs and policies to ensure that women have increasing access to these services.

In this context, she pointed to the Guarantee Fund and other programs that are being encouraged and proposed to credit banks, so that women, individually or organized in cooperatives, have access to credit and can develop activities to improve the lives of their families.

She said that she presented this reality at the conference on the role and initiative of women in the Taihu region, who have already been promoting this approach to empowerment and the need for more active participation, in addition to applying themselves to the fight against violence and exploitation of women, girls and young women.

She recalled that, as President of the African Union, “Angola promoted a meeting on the vision of women, in which we reaffirmed our commitment to work together and promote the inclusive development of social justice for African women.”

According to Esperança da Costa, the event served to address Angola’s remarkable progress in terms of regulatory structure, with legislation on women’s equity and equality.

To this end, she presented the country’s progress in legislation on combating violence against women, and the government’s measures to empower women, provide them with access to more training, especially in new technologies in this digital age, so that they can acquire more skills and have greater access to the job market.

The Vice-President of the Republic also highlighted her participation in the cultural conference, which China intends to create a platform for dialogue, so that the cultures of various countries can meet and identify ways of coexisting, instead of isolating themselves.

This interaction, she argued, aims, through cultural traditions, ancestral practices, and more modern cultures with their customs, to build bridges, exchange experiences, and identify common ground for solutions that can overcome the challenges of the modern world.
