Africa-Press – Angola. The Head of State, João Lourenço, expressed, this Saturday, in Luanda, Angola’s intention to develop closer cooperation with the Czech Republic, through the identification of areas of common interest.

In a note of congratulations on the celebration of the European country’s independence day, João Lourenço states that he hopes that it will be possible to explore, with mutual benefit, the great potential that exists in both countries.

It suggests holding high-level meetings to establish, in the near future, fundamental bases for strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Long-term relationships

Relations between the two countries date back to the proclamation of National Independence, through the then Socialist Republic of Czechoslovakia.

With a long-standing relationship, Angola and the Czech Republic have been considering establishing more solid and effective cooperation in the most varied areas.

Political-diplomatic and cooperation relations between the Republic of Angola and the Czech Republic date back to January 1, 1993.

In December 1999, a Declaration was signed on ties between the two countries, which were strengthened in 2006, with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the Development Cooperation Program.

The Czech Republic is a country in Central Europe, bordered to the north by Poland and Germany, to the east by Slovakia, to the south by Austria and to the west by Germany.

The country’s capital is the city of Prague, which is also the largest and most populous, with more than one million inhabitants.
