Africa-Press – Angola. Sixteen thousand 290 crimes of a diverse nature were registered in the first quarter of this year, two thousand 77 fewer than in the same period last year, according to the Minister of the Interior, Eugénio César Laborinho.

Speaking at the opening of the Extended Consultative Council of the Ministry of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho said, without elaborating, that violent crimes have reduced, namely homicides, sexual assaults, attacks on physical integrity, robberies and kidnappings.

He stated that, despite the reduction in some types of crimes, the country must redouble its fight against the illegal extraction of strategic mineral resources, cybercrime, illegal fishing, damage and theft of public property, fuel smuggling, illegal immigration, among others.

He considered it essential to strengthen the security of national borders, reduce crime and road accident rates, as well as improve methods of combating crimes of an economic and financial nature.

The Minister of the Interior spoke of the need to discourage acts of justice by one’s own hands, which have claimed human lives or caused incapacity for many citizens, as recently happened with the musician Calebe, who was savagely murdered.

He declared that the State counts on the partnership of government organizations, the family, churches and schools in the construction of a new man.

Eugénio Laborinho stated that the commitment to the country requires hard and effective work from the department, with rigor and discipline to continue improving action mechanisms and contributing to the well-being of the populations.

He guaranteed that the public security situation in the country is considered calm and under the control of the authorities.

The Advisory Council’s work agenda envisages discussing the public security situation in the first quarter and the draft laws on the disciplinary regime for National Police personnel, decorations for staff, the basis for the Criminal Investigation Services and the legal regime for citizens foreigners.

Secretaries of State in charge, general and deputy commanders of the National Police and directors of MININT will also evaluate the impact of the new legal regime for exemption and simplification of visas and the granting of tourist visas and the proposed regulation of the National Observatory against Terrorism.

Proposals for laws to change the Angolan passport and the organic status of criminal investigation services and draft regulations for the national private security consultation council, among others, are also on the agenda.
