Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassador and Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations (UN), Francisco José da Cruz, this Wednesday presented the Letters of Credentials to the Secretary-General, António Guterres.

During the ceremony, Francisco da Cruz took the opportunity to reaffirm Angola’s engagement and desire to continue to strengthen cooperation with the UN on issues on the international agenda, such as peace and security, development, human rights, within the principle of multilateralism. .

Francisco da Cruz also expressed Angola’s support for the UN Secretary General’s various initiatives, with emphasis on the reform of the Security Council, Our Common Agenda and the Summit of the Future.

In turn, António Guterres considered Angola an important pillar of multilateralism in Africa and in a global perspective, having highlighted the leadership and commitment of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts on the continent.

António Guterres stressed that the arrival of the new Ambassador will further boost the deepening of cooperation relations between Angola and the United Nations.

The accreditation ceremony was witnessed by diplomats from the Permanent Mission of Angola, as well as officials from the United Nations Secretariat.

Appointed on the 7th of March, Francisco José da Cruz becomes the 7th Permanent Representative of Angola at the headquarters of the United Nations, in New York, since the country was admitted as a full member, on the 1st of December 1976.

The diplomat holds a Master’s Degree in Business Management, having attended various courses in International Relations and Human Resources Management.

Francisco da Cruz has been, since 2019, Ambassador of Angola to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission. He also served as Director of the Studies and Analysis Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Director of the America and Europe Departments, among other functions in various diplomatic representations.
