Angolan Ambassador Presents Copy of Credentials in Chile

Africa-Press – Angola. The representative of the Republic of Angola in the Republic of Chile, Azevedo Xavier Francisco, presented on Monday (19), the copy of his Credentials to the Director-General of Protocol of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Christian Hodges Nugent.

According to a note, the protocol ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Chilean Foreign Ministry, took place in a cordial atmosphere.

During the meeting, the diplomats exchanged views on the history of bilateral cooperation, with special emphasis on the oil sector, which has already played a strategic role in relations between the two countries.

The parties expressed interest in resuming it and jointly creating other cooperation areas.

The conversation also included an analysis of the implementation of the Angola-Chile Joint Action Plan, signed in Luanda on Sept 26, 2014, and the identification of new areas with potential for future cooperation.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Angolan diplomat met with Ambassador Carlos Morán León, Director of the Middle East and Africa Division, and with the Executive Director of the Chilean Agency for Development Cooperation, Enrique Farrill-Julien.

Both meetings focused on strengthening ties, with emphasis on the confirmation of the awarding of Nelson Mandela Scholarships to Angolan students, still during the current month.

Proposals for agreements submitted by the Angolan side in Jan 2025 were also discussed, including the Agreement on the Abolition of Visas for Diplomatic and Service Passports and the Memorandum of Understanding on the Mechanism for Political Consultations between both countries Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

Angola and Chile have maintained diplomatic ties since July 19, 1990, and the need to promote bilateral cooperation is recognized to better exploit the existing potential in several areas of common interest.
