Africa-Press – Angola. Ambassador Carlos Cruz de Lemos Sardinha Dias presented, over the weekend in San Salvador, the Letters of Credence that officially recognize him as Head of the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in El Salvador, with non-resident status.
The ceremony took place at the Salvadoran Presidential Palace and was presided over by the Vice President of the Republic, Félix Ulloa.
The ambassador, who has permanent residence in Havana, Cuba, had already delivered, on November 17, 2025, a copy of his credentials to the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Adriana Mira, in a meeting held virtually.
Strengthening bilateral ties
During the ceremony, Carlos Sardinha Dias stated that the main objective of his mission is to “develop ties of friendship” and strengthen bilateral relations between Angola and El Salvador, highlighting the existing potential for cooperation in various fields.
The parties intend to hold political consultations soon to further explore topics of common interest in the areas of economy, culture, science, tourism, security and renewable energy.
El Salvador, a Central American country with approximately 6.5 million inhabitants, borders Guatemala and Honduras and is bathed by the Pacific Ocean.
The country has gained international notoriety for becoming one of the safest in the world, a result of the anti-organized crime policy implemented by President Nayib Bukele.
Diplomatic relations between Angola and El Salvador were officially established on September 18, 2023, through the signing of a Joint Communiqué during the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Angola exports mainly agricultural products to the Salvadoran market, reaching approximately US$1.6 million in 2023.
Extended regional mandate
In addition to El Salvador, Carlos Sardinha Dias also serves as non-resident ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Panama, and Costa Rica.
In the coming months, the diplomat is expected to present Letters of Credence in Guatemala, Honduras, and Haiti, expanding Angolan representation in the Central American and Caribbean region.
