Africa-Press – Angola. A book entitled “Academia à Practical Studies in Sports Law”, written by 40 authors, including the Angolan Egas Viegas, was recently presented in Lisbon (Portugal).

In the book, with 918 pages and 42 articles, Egas Viegas presents the theme “The Legal Regime of Angolan Sports Social Security”, an approach that has been imposed since the publication of the diploma in 2022.

According to the coordinator of the work, professor Alexandre Miguel Mestre, the joint initiative was born with the aim of bringing together the knowledge of several professors in the area of Sports Law, all of whom also come from practice and have academic experience.

In addition to academics, the project brings together students who completed a postgraduate degree in Sports Law at the Autonomous University of Lisbon and who are already applying, in practice, the law they learned in associations, clubs, sports federations, among others.

According to the professor, the objective is that knowledge does not just remain in the book, but that it can be a document that has an impact on lawyers, sports managers, teachers, students, which is a channel of dissemination of Sports Law.

Regarding the topic that Egas Viegas presents in the book, the professor highlighted that it is a very interesting subject and that in Portugal almost no one writes about the Social Security Area applied to the context of sport.

He added that it serves as comparative law, an analysis that people should also do by looking at “our” brothers.

In turn, Egas Viegas expressed joy at receiving the invitation from the Autonomous University of Lisbon, in particular from professor Alexandre Mestre.

“It is the first time that we have the opportunity to bring our sports law to other realities and we know very well that Portugal is very advanced with regard to Sports Law, unlike Angola where “very little is known” about it.

For him, the topic is an opportunity for Angolan sportspeople outside the country to know that Angola already has a regime that protects sports and safeguards their future.

Egas Viegas has a degree in Law from the Agostinho Neto University, a postgraduate degree in Sports Law from the Autonomous University of Lisbon.

He is a lawyer and founding partner of EV Sociedade de Advogados, RL.

He is coordinator and founding member of the Angolan Sports Law Association.

Published the works “Sports Employment Contract” in 2017, co-authored “Social Security,” Pension and Insurance Funds for athletes”, 2018.

Also “Introduction to Sports Law”, 2019, “Practical Cases of Sports Law”, 2022 and “Corruption in Angolan Football”.
