Africa-Press – Angola. Evelise Mendes, an Angolan athlete, won a gold medal in the Junior A category in the 47-kilogram weight category at the African Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship in Luanda, which takes place from 14 to 19 April.

The Angolan defeated her compatriot Emília António in the final, adding the 20th gold medal for the country in this competition, which entered its second day of combat.

Four more finals combat are scheduled for Wednesday , two in the women’s category and two in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Angolan Anaury Sequeira will fight against Cameroonian Alexandra Yelena (61 kg), and national athletes Cláudia Mundula and Engrácia Garcia will fight in the 65 kg category, while in the men’s category, the Angolans will face each other, with Diasivi Renato against Higildo Leite in the 74 kg category, and Kalemba Kitoko against Francisco Manuel in the 88 kg category.

A total of 38 fights are expected during the day, mostly elimination rounds.

On the first day of fights, Tuesday, Angola won 19 gold medals and 14 silver medals.

Athletes from 12 countries, namely Angola, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Cameroon, Ghana, Tunisia, Mauritius, South Africa, Zambia, Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe are competing in the Angolan capital.
