Africa-Press – Angola. Alves Simões, the chairman of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), admitted on Tuesday in Luanda that the national team’s participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco was a failure considering the set objectives.
Simões made the statement during a press conference to evaluate the national team’s performance in the tournament, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
“We completely failed in our objectives. We have to admit it; that’s the truth,” Simões said, adding that poor preparation was the root of the team’s poor performance.
Simões said that the group did not have any problems with bonuses for players or coaching staff, enabling them to focus solely on the competition.
Placed in Group B, Angola lost to South Africa (1-2), tied with Zimbabwe (1-1) and Egypt (0-0). They finished in third place with two points, which was insufficient to advance in the competition. Their objective was to improve upon their performance in the previous edition, in which they made it to the quarterfinals.
