Africa-Press – Angola. At least six new ambassadors presented a letter of credence to President João Lourenço in Luanda on Thursday, enabling them to represent and defend the diplomatic, political, economic, commercial, and cultural interests of their respective countries in Angola.
In separate ceremonies in the Noble Hall of the Presidential Palace, the Angolan Head of State accredited the heads of the diplomatic missions of Guinea, Saifon Diallo; Algeria, Mounir Bourouba; Gabon, Edwige Koumby Missambo; and Japan, Sano Hiroaki, all of whom have resident status in the country.
The ambassadors of Croatia, Anita Trsic Pop, and Mexico, Sara Valdés Bolaño, non-residents, also presented their legal instruments to the Angolan Head of State.
Immediately after the accreditation, President João Lourenço held private talks, lasting approximately 15 minutes, with each of the diplomats to discuss issues related to cooperation.
Credentials are formal documents sent by one Head of State to another to confirm the appointment of an ambassador.
They serve as official diplomatic credentials, allowing the ambassador to perform his or her duties in the host country.
The process of delivering credentials usually involves an official ceremony in which the ambassador presents the document to the president of the country where he or she will serve.
Only after this formal delivery is the diplomat officially recognized and can begin his or her activities. The letters are presented in person by the ambassador to the head of state in a formal ceremony.
