Africa-Press – Angola. After the 2023 edition, Angolan swimmer Henrique Mascarenhas maintained 52nd position in the 200 meter freestyle event at the World Championship, clocking a time of 1:54.82, which takes place in Doha, Qatar.
The National Team sprinter improved by around a minute compared to his performance at the 2023 World Cup, held in Fukuoka, Japan, in which he clocked 1:55.09.
Henrique even came third in his series (2), but not enough to guarantee a place among the 16 qualified for the semi-finals, out of a total of 67 competitors.
The 22-year-old swimmer will compete again on Wednesday in the 100m freestyle. In the debut of pure swimming, Sunday, Angola entered the scene with veteran Lia Lima, in the 100m butterfly, who improved 10 places in relation to the previous World Cup, occupying 34th position, with a record of 1:03.98, among 45 opponents.
Lia, although she did not qualify for the semi-finals again, improved her mark, reaching a time of 1:04.88 (44th place), achieved at the 2023 World Cup, in Fukuoka, Japan.
The experienced 22-year-old swims again on Wednesday in the 200m butterfly. The promising Nhara Fernandes will only compete on the 17th, with a double event, in the 50m freestyle and breaststroke.
The country also participated in the open water specialty, with Rafaela Santo and Yano Elias, both finishing without scoring. The first didn’t finish the 10km race, the other went over the time limit in the 5km.
