Angolan Olympic Committee Praises Approval of the Anti-Doping Statute

Africa-Press – Angola. The approval of the Organic Statute of the National Anti-Doping Agency of Angola (ANADA), by the Council of Ministers, was considered, in Luanda, an added value for sports justice and protection of the country’s practitioners, by the new president of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA), Pedro Godinho.

In reaction to the document that was endorsed, last Friday, by the Executive, during its 6th ordinary session, guided by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the sports director highlighted the importance of the legal instrument, which will allow a fairer and healthier competition of those involved in the social phenomenon.

“It was a very positive decision on the part of the Angolan Government, which to a large extent makes it possible to have a national sport complying with the rules of transparency and fair results. Therefore, we feel rejoicing and with an instrument of extreme importance for the sporting life of the country”, he said.

He added that the ideals of Olympimism defend clean sport, respect for the laws of games, fair play, friendship, conviviality and other positive actions, banning negative practices, such as the use of doping in competitions.

Pedro Godinho, who replaces Gustavo da Conceição, at the head of the COA, for the four-year period 2024/2028, expressed his opinion on the approval of the ANADA Statute, in statements to Radio 5.

This is the legal instrument that contains rules that aim to ensure the defence of sporting integrity, equity in competitions, the effective protection of athletes, support staff and other sports agents.

It also guarantees full compliance with the commitments made by the Angolan State, in the context of the fight against doping, according to the final communiqué of the Council of Ministers meeting.

Within the scope of the diploma now under consideration, ANADA is the entity responsible for the incorporation, implementation and supervision of the application of the rules and guidelines relating to the fight against doping in sport, in accordance with the principles and obligations established by the World Anti-Doping Code and the Anti-Doping Law in Sport.

From the same session, the Organic Statute of the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Council was also considered and approved, aiming at its alignment with the international guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The Statute aims to ensure that Angola complies with the commitments made under the international conventions on doping in sport and ensuring a standardization of anti-doping rules and a reinforcement of the responsibilities of the sports agents involved.
