Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, analyzed, this Monday, in Tokyo, with the Japanese Emperor, Naruhito, issues of common interest, within the framework of closer cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting between the two personalities marked the highlight of the second day of the four-day visit that President João Lourenço is making to Japan, at the invitation of the local authorities.

João Lourenço, who has been in Tokyo since Sunday (12), went to meet the Emperor accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.

Under Japanese law, the Emperor acts as Head of State on diplomatic occasions, Japan being a constitutional monarchy where the Emperor’s power is very limited.

The country’s Constitution defines it as a “symbol of the State and of the unity of the people”. It has no government-related powers.

Power, granted by popular sovereignty, is mainly concentrated in the figure of the Japanese Prime Minister and other elected members.

Hearings

In the Japanese capital, the Angolan Head of State granted audiences to various individuals linked to the local business sector.

At first, João Lourenço held a meeting with the president of NEXI, Atsuo Kuroda, a Japanese company specialized in insurance for trade and investments.

He then granted audiences to the deputy governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JIBIC), Kazuhiko Amakawa, and the vice president of the Agency for International Cooperation (JCA), Junich Yamada.

With these three entities, the Angolan President analyzed issues related to the investments of the respective companies in Angola.

Also this Monday, President João Lourenço spoke at the opening of the Japan-Angola Business Forum, where he appealed to Japanese businessmen to invest in Angola.

Among the sectors open to Japanese investment in Angola are oil and gas, agriculture, fisheries, industry, tourism and social impact services.

Japan, the third largest economy in the world, has the tenth largest population in the world with about 125.4 million inhabitants.
