Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, defended, this Saturday, in Nairobi, the resumption of direct flights between Angola and Kenya.
Speaking to the press at the end of a meeting with his Kenyan counterpart, as part of his state visit to Kenya, João Lourenço stated that the connection will bring the people of the two countries closer together, as well as boosting trade exchanges.
He said that the Angolan Executive will work to materialize this purpose, soon, to increase trade exchanges, a strategic area to boost cooperation between both countries.
The Angolan statesman considered it important to increase trade exchanges, counting on Kenya to help Angolans in various sectors, with particular emphasis on tourism, a strong point for Kenyans.
“Kenya has an economy based on tourism and agriculture, sectors that are of interest to Angola, which has great potential, due to the abundance of natural resources, and which seeks to diversify the economy that is too dependent on oil”, he highlighted.
João Lourenço highlighted the importance of the 11 legal instruments signed between the parties, with emphasis on agriculture, science, transport and visa exemptions.
In this regard, he expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Kenyan Government had announced visa exemption for Angolan passports and committed to working in the same direction in the near future.
During his intervention, President João Lourenço took the opportunity to invite his Kenyan counterpart to visit Angola, hoping that the two diplomacies will agree on dates for this purpose.
Angola and Kenya have maintained diplomatic and cooperative relations for several years.
In 2012, they signed three legal instruments, namely, the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Kenya, as well as the Agreement on the creation of the Bilateral Commission.
