Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço on Wednesday in Luanda, emphasized the strengthened cooperation between Angola and Germany, yielding tangible results in strategic sectors such as energy, health, and industry.
After meeting with his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is on an official visit to Angola, Lourenço told the press that the future Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric dam, the largest in the country, will be equipped with German technology and turbines, demonstrating confidence in German companies’ capabilities in Angola’s energy sector.
“The energy sector is an example of German involvement in Angola. The Caculo Cabaça dam will receive power-generating turbines produced by a German company, confirming confidence in their technologies,” said Lourenço.
The Angolan statesman added that several hospitals in the country receive equipment and technology from German brands, including those built by companies from other countries. This contributes to the modernization of the hospital system.
Lourenço expressed interest in attracting more German private investment, particularly in tourism, pharmaceuticals, and vaccine production, sectors in which a pilot project is already underway in Huambo province.
The Angolan head of state emphasized that there is a “vast path to explore” between the two countries and defended the need to seize opportunities for mutual benefit between Angola and Germany.
He reported that issues related to international politics were also discussed during the meeting with his counterpart, especially the main global conflicts and challenges. A convergence of viewpoints between Angola and Germany was noted on various topics.
The Angolan president thanked his counterpart for the visit and expressed regret that the German delegation could not stay in Luanda until November 11, the 50th anniversary of National Independence, due to scheduling conflicts.
During the visit, three legal instruments were signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in economic, technological, and training projects.
These agreements include an Air Transport Services, a contract between Lufthansa Consulting GmbH and the Ministry of Transport, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding for an agro-industrial hub in Angola.
