Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço on Wednesday had a phone conversation with the Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, having discussed the cooperation between the two countries.
This fact is expressed in a note from the President’s Support Services released.
Cooperation relations between Angola and Portugal, formally established following Angola’s independence (November 11, 1975), are grounded in a shared cultural, legal, and institutional framework, as well as specific technical expertise in areas fundamental to development.
In 1978, the two countries signed the General Cooperation Agreement; from that point on, bilateral relations intensified, and numerous other cooperation agreements were signed across a wide range of sectors, including political-diplomatic, economic, and financial fields, alongside partnerships in energy, transport, and strategic projects such as the Lobito Corridor.
Institutional cooperation between the two states has evolved dynamically over the years, both in a bilateral context, through Strategic Cooperation Programs (PEC), and in a multilateral one, involving the European Union and other organizations.
