Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, leaves Luanda on Friday (10th), bound for Tokyo, for an official visit to Japan, from the 12th to the 15th of the current month.

The information was released this Thursday by the Secretary of the President of the Republic for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs, Luís Fernando, according to whom President João Lourenço’s agenda includes working meetings with high-ranking figures in the Japanese State.

He added that in the Asian country the Angolan Head of State will work in the cities of Tokyo, Nagoya and Kyoto, being reserved for the capital, Tokyo, political and protocol activities.

Cooperation between Angola and Japan

Angola and Japan intend to increase cooperation in the political, economic and cultural domains, especially in the process of industrialization and overcoming challenges in the areas of agriculture and the development of agribusiness, oil and mining.

Bilateral cooperation began in 1988 as Emergency Aid, via UNICEF.

After the end of the war in Angola, 2002, Japan began to carry out assistance in the areas of mine clearance, social reintegration of former soldiers and reintegration of refugees.
As part of the national reconstruction of Angola, Japan has been providing assistance within the framework of international organizations, in segments such as food aid and assistance to farmers and poverty.

Japan’s support extends to assistance with the repatriation of refugees, water supply facilities, construction of primary schools, communication network and ports.

In the health sector, since 1996, Japan has donated US$40 million for the rehabilitation and equipment of the Josina Machel Hospital, which is a reference in the country.
Within the scope of economic cooperation, in recent years, knowledge and experiences from Japan have been used in the areas of rice cultivation development and professional training.
