Africa-Press – Angola. Ju-jitsu in the country emerged between the 80s and 90s, in Luanda, directed by masters from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and later evolved into combat sport.

The fact was revealed, Thursday, by the technical director of the Angolan Federation of Ju-Jitsu & Associated Disciplines (FAJUJ & DA), Adriano Paulo.

“It was a ju-jitsu for self-defense, but it evolved over time for competition. The older ones gave their maximum in the modality”, said Adriano Paulo, in statements given at the Cidadela Complex.

Adriano Paulo highlighted the main drivers of the sport, with emphasis on the sensitive André Nsalomoko, Daniel Tudila Kingongo, Lukissa Domingos and Dinamunito André.

The technical director of FAJUJ & DA recalled that the first schools appeared in some districts of Luanda, among the academies stand out the União Clube Bison de Angola (UCB), The Ranger Center I, Nidan, Cafame Sony, Mestre Cobra, The Ranger Center II (Atocha), SAN 1 (Lukissa Domingos) and SAN 2 (André Timóteo Tola).

Asked about the current number of practitioners in Luanda, Adriano Paulo said: “it is incalculable. We have more than a thousand athletes, but if we add them all together it is priceless”, explained the leader.

As for the academies, the technical director assured that there are more than 40 schools controlled by the federation in Luanda alone.

“The number can be extended if we include the country’s 18 provinces,” he said.
