Africa-Press – Angola. A group of Angolans living in the diaspora expressed, this Saturday, in Huambo, their interest in contributing to the economic and social development of this province in the Central Highlands, mainly in the health, education, technology and tourism sectors.
The intention was expressed to the press after a courtesy meeting with the governor of the province of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, in an initiative of the Real Angola National Movement (MONAR) which mobilized close to 30 Angolans to this region of the country, including businessmen, academics and experts from various areas.
These are Angolans residing in South Africa, Germany, Colombia, Spain, Namibia, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, who, after learning about the social and economic potential of this province, promise to cooperate in enabling foreign investment in areas with the greatest need..
On the occasion, Optometry and Vision specialist, Ngueve Sousa, resident in Madrid (Spain), said she was interested in cooperating in the creation of health services, with a focus on preventing blindness due to cataracts and glaucoma.
A native of the province of Huambo, he said that it is important, initially, to train specialized staff, as well as mass screening of the population, to combat this disease, which affects many Angolans in this part of the country.
In turn, Manuel dos Santos, a businessman in the hotel and tourism sector, resident in the Republic of Namibia, expressed his interest in investing, in the near future, in these areas, given the local tourist potential, if the Government opens up.
He said that they left the meeting with governor Lotti Nolika with a positive impression regarding the current situation in Huambo, consolidated with the tour to the “Manuel Rui Monteiro” Cultural and Technological Training Integration (CINFOTEC) centers, as well as the Centrality of Lossambo, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Ribeira do Cuando, among other places.
The general secretary of the MONAR assembly board, Ernesto Miúdo, said that the initiative to bring Angolans residing in the diaspora aims, above all, to identify business opportunities in light of the current reality, as well as to awaken interest in returning to the country, to contribute with their knowledge to the progress of the Nation.
He said that this initiative, which mobilized close to 300 Angolans in the diaspora who, at the moment, are visiting various regions of the country, was the result of an investigation, with the purpose, also, of creating business opportunities.
The governor of the province of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, praised MONAR’s initiative, which will help to leverage the gains made in various sectors in its area of jurisdiction, since National Independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975, and Peace, achieved April 4, 2002.
The minister assured visitors that the Government is open to partnerships in all actions that contribute to the sustainable development of the country and in particular the province of Huambo, highlighting that all Angolans are called to participate in this task, a fact that is evident in a time in Angola celebrates 22 years of peace.
Essentially focused on the area of mineral extraction and agriculture, which represents 76 percent of economic activity, the province of Huambo, located in the Central Plateau of Angola, has an estimated population of two million and 700 thousand inhabitants, distributed in 11 municipalities 11 municipalities.
