Angola’s agricultural potential is being showcased at Expo2023 in Doha, Qatar, with the aim of showcasing the strengths of this sector and seeking the best solutions for more effective economic diversification in the country, said the Angolan general commissioner at the event, Albina Assis.
When explaining the characteristics of the Angolan pavilion to a delegation from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Angola (CCIA), made up of national and foreign businesspeople from various sectors, Albina Assis said that the country aims to export agricultural products to the territory of Qatar in the future. .
He mentioned that Angolan participation in Expo/2023 aims to attract investors from Qatar, as it is a country with potential that interests Angola, hence the presence of the CCIA and the business class in Doha, for symbiosis, cooperation and discussions with the business community. qatari.
The CCIA delegation, led by its president, Vicente Soares, traveled to Doha to participate in the 9th edition of the “Made in Qatar” exhibition, which took place from November 29th to December 2nd, co-organized by the Qatar Chamber and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, having welcomed local and foreign businesspeople interested in new partnerships and business opportunities.
“Our exhibition is horticulture, based on agriculture. We follow the theme of Expo 2023 which is ‘Green Desert, Better Life’ and with our own motto ‘Planting for Life’, we seek to show our potential, from the desert to the oasis, because we also have an extensive desert, but with a particularity of being linked to the sea, the Namib Desert”, he highlighted.
According to the Expo’s general commissioner, the Angolan pavilion has attracted many visitors, probably because in addition to the images, the content on display includes explanations in Portuguese and English, which facilitates understanding and knowledge about the country, such as its programs , mainly in the agricultural field.
He highlighted that the country is showing its progression from traditional agriculture, essentially supported by family production, to modern agriculture that was on display at the fair.
He said that, since its inauguration, on November 14, the pavilion has received more than four thousand and 200 visitors, a number considered satisfactory by the Angolan delegation to the event, taking into account that Qatar only has a population estimated at two million and 688 thousand inhabitants (2021 data), with the capital city, Doha, holding the majority of this number, two million and 382 people.
According to the general commissioner, more than 200 people of various nationalities and origins visit the pavilion daily, where they learn about the country’s agricultural, tourist and cultural varieties, with emphasis on the national gastronomic diversity, greeted by the entertainment of the Angolan folk music and dance group “Kina ku moxi”.
Last Saturday, among the visitors, a young Qatari stood out, out of a group of three, aged between 20 and 25, who declared that he had seven million dollars in his account, of which he expressed his intention to invest one million in Angola. In response, the members of the Angolan Intergovernmental Commission at Expo/2023 accepted the young man’s wish.
Another curiosity refers to a young woman, also from Qatar, who appeared in the Angolan pavilion and preferred to talk to the Angolan delegation in Portuguese, having explained that she learned the language in one of the institutes in her country.
At the end of the visit to the pavilion, ambassador António Coelho Ramos da Cruz stated that the Angolan Executive intends to have a strong economic partnership with Qatar, to leverage the diversification of the country’s economy, adding that the embassy is committed to convincing the Qatari side about Angola’s potential and capacity to promote, support and protect investment.
“This promotion is now reflected in the arrival of the Angolan business delegation to Qatar, which demonstrates the desire to seek partnerships, which could be consolidated with the signing, in the future, of a cooperation agreement between the chambers of commerce of both countries. countries”, he assured.
For his part, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Angola, Vicente Soares, considered the exhibition as an opportunity for local and foreign businesspeople to learn about Angola’s potential without traveling to the country, “as there is no business without reciprocal knowledge”, highlighted.
In this way, he highlighted, when they go to Angola they will already have prior knowledge, because in this space there are all the conditions for visitors to find out about the Executive’s programs, the country’s potential and what Angolan businesspeople can offer.
Vicente Soares said that the Angolan business delegation went to Doha to look for partnerships, attract Qatari investments and also intends to invest in Qatar.

Located right at the entrance to the Expo space, the Angola pavilion measures 200 square meters.
In his welcome message to the guests, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, wrote: “The history of humanity records, over time, challenges and opportunities. This is also the case today. Our planet continues to experience rapid population growth, challenging us towards more robust and inclusive economic growth”, having considered that growing in a sustainable manner is one of the main challenges of the current generation.
For the Angolan Head of State, the International Horticultural Exhibition – Expo 2023 Doha constitutes an excellent opportunity to assess the state of the art and perspective the global future based on the trinomial “modern agriculture, technology and innovation and sustainability”.
