Africa-Press – Angola. Close to twenty thousand people from remote regions in the provinces of Bié, Cuando Cubango, Lundas-Norte and Lunada-Sul benefit from the communication system provided by AngoSat-2, through the “Conecta Angola” program.
The information was provided, this Friday, by the deputy director for the Technical and Scientific area of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), Vangiliya Pereira, on the sidelines of the II Consultative Council of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication , held in the city of Huambo, under the motto “Connect and Communicate for Citizenship”.
The official said that the “Conecta Angola” project is part of the program to expand the communication system in the country, to stimulate local social and economic development.
He explained that AngoSat-2, with a technical operation, typically by Angolan staff, is allowing the flexibility of the processed communication system, through radio, television, social networks and mobile phones in remote regions of the country, which have been without infrastructure for decades. structures.
He recalled that these areas, mostly located in the communes of these provinces, never had communications through conventional institutions, such as Unitel and Angola Telecom, at a time when pilot projects were being developed and then expanded to other areas. areas of the country.
He said that this process of making communication more flexible is developed, in partnership with Angola-Telecom, the Communications Development Support Fund (FADCOM), Infrasat Angola and the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFASI).
Vangiliya Pereira stated that AngoSat-2 will provide a variety of communication services for the commercial sector in search of efficiency and signal expansion in the country and will facilitate the availability of a satellite image database for earth observation, for economic segments, agricultural, infrastructure and city planning and the monitoring of oil spills on the sea coast.
The official explained that Angola is one of the few African countries that is already part of NASA’s Artemis program (American National Aeronautics and Space Administration) after the launch of AngoSat-2 into orbit.
He added that GGPEN is promoting, within the scope of this program, massive staff training projects in Space Technology areas, to boost and manage AngoSat in orbit, with a focus on reducing external independence.
In this context, as highlighted by the person responsible, GGPEN contributed to the graduation of 600 Angolans, including graduates, masters and doctors, in space subjects over the last ten years.
The Angolan satellite program in orbit (AngoSat-2) is operated by 45 national technicians.
The focal point of the meeting, led by the minister, Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira, was the presentation of the strategic plan and projects for the MINTTICS sector, the programs for the Social Communication, Telecommunications and Information Technologies subsectors and the restructuring and modernization of public companies in the sector.
Participating in the event were the secretaries of State of MINTTICS, Boards of Directors of companies in the sector, national directors and general directors of supervised institutions, consultants, directors of Institutional Communication offices, press attachés, directors of provincial Social Communication offices and partner associations.
