ANGOTIC 2023: Awakens the fishing sector – says minister

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen Sacramento Neto, considered that the 3rd edition of ANGOTIC 2023 – International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies in Angola represents the awakening of the sector, which has an agenda focused on innovation.

Speaking to the press, the minister indicated that the sector is aware of an agenda for innovation in the fisheries sector, with the basic assumption of tracking boats in the oceans.

He explained that they do it, through technology, with a blue box, through the AIS signal.

“Through these two mechanisms, we manage to track the movement of the boats and it is on these assumptions that our Ministry is organizing, so that all the boats that are in the water can have the blue boxes for tracking, but, above all, have the rigor to leave the AIS signal on for follow-up”, he stressed.

According to the same, the device will be extended to small vessels, industrial and semi-industrial fishing, as well as artisanal.

The minister explained that the process could be tested this year, with the blue boxes in artisanal fishing, since the device exists.

This, he pointed out, is one of the fundamental objectives in the structure of fisheries, taking into account the fact that the ministry is responsible for the governance of the sea strategy, marine planning plan and bringing the blue economy to the economy.
