Africa-Press – Angola. Nine hundred thousand head of cattle are expected to be immunized against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, symptomatic and hematic anthrax, in Cunene province, during the animal vaccination campaign, opened this Friday, in the town of Uia, municipality of Cahama.
The campaign aims to guarantee animal immunity, preserve the contagion of the main endemic diseases and stimulate livestock production.
According to the head of the Cunene Veterinary department, Cláudio Simão, the campaign will take place over a period of 90 days, with, in a first phase, 59 thousand doses of PPCB, 42 thousand 700 of symptomatic anthrax, 12 thousand and 700 of anthrax hematico, 30 thousand and 200 doses of affectionate fever.
Along with bovine vaccination, he also plans to immunize more than 20,000 pets (dogs, cats and monkeys) against rabies, with 15,000 doses available.
For this purpose, he noted that thirty brigades were created, comprising a total of 120 veterinary technicians, who will work in the six municipalities of the province.
The acting governor of Cunene, Apolo Ndinoulenga, highlighted the importance of vaccination, as it guarantees animal health, whose cattle constitute the main wealth of the local population.
He referred that animal health is a concern of the Angolan State, which has made efforts annually in the acquisition of vaccines so that breeders can immunize the herd free of charge.
He called for the mobilization of breeders in order to prepare vaccination sleeves to receive veterinary technicians and take the cattle in order to be immunized.
Data from the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries office point to the registration of more than one million and 100 thousand head of cattle controlled in Cunene province, of which 78 percent are owned by traditional breeders.
