Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Minister of Education Luísa Grilo ruled out on Wednesday in Dubai any risk of teachers being replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Speaking on the sidelines of the work of the World Summit of Governments (CMG), Minister Luísa Grilo considered the importance of AI in Angola’s national educational systems to be indisputable as it enhances greater effectiveness in the teaching process.
According to the official, Artificial Intelligence will bring greater efficiency and effectiveness to the teaching process, it will facilitate the work of teachers, but will never replace them.
She assured that everyone is unanimous in stating that education based on Artificial Intelligence is fundamental, as the world is moving in its direction.
“We will never stop using (AI), especially because the world is heading that way. Artificial Intelligence will bring greater efficiency and effectiveness (…), it will make teachers’ work easier, but never replace teachers”, she highlighted.
From the Minister’s perspective, teachers will continue to be the “leaders” in organizing the entire educational center process, but “with a great help that comes from the technologies that are now being used in teaching”.
Work protocol
Luísa Grilo clarified that her presence at CMG’s work responds to an invitation from the entity organizing the event, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), due to a work protocol signed two years ago in the field of applying digital education.
“We have a project with them, we are working and it is in this sense that we came to see how Artificial Intelligence is being used, or (…) it can be used to facilitate learning and improve the quality of education”, she said.
From the Minister’s perspective, AI is “very good” as long as it is properly regulated and with adequate dosage of its use by people of certain ages and also (dosage) of all this use of Artificial Intelligence.
She explained that the existing agreement with the UAE side focuses first on the training of teachers and school managers who will experiment with the project.
She revealed that 10 schools have already been identified in 10 provinces of the country, all of them primary education, where the Ministry of Education will begin, from this month of February, to install security and logistical mechanisms in the infrastructures that will receive the technology.
Under the terms of the signed agreement, a Dubai Digital School will promote the dissemination of education through digital media and guarantee the benefit to the largest possible target group in Angola.
A Memorandum of Understanding, was initialed by Minister Luísa Grilo and the president of the Board of Directors of Escola Digital, on the sidelines of the 11th edition of the World Government Summit, held in February 2024.
The agreement provides for the Digital School to provide a flexible learning methodology that takes into account the personal needs of each student and allows them to develop knowledge and skills through advanced Artificial Intelligence and digital applications.
It will also guarantee learning opportunities for students and groups who want to learn wherever they are and in any circumstances, providing an integrated curriculum aligned with the national curriculum for the various academic levels.
One of the objectives is to serve as an additional option and motivation for students and those who wish to learn and improve their standard of living.
The Digital School is one of the humanitarian initiatives launched by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, which aims to shape the future of global education by using modern technologies to expand educational opportunities.
To this end, it uses knowledge, experience and cutting-edge systems, proven to be effective, in developing a realistic and future-oriented vision and approach.
