Africa-Press – Angola. Two hundred and 50 fishermen grouped in two associations in Cabinda will benefit, in the coming days, from boats and hoopoe engines, within the scope of the Fishing Communities Livelihood Reinforcement Project, in a financing launched in this city, with the support of the oil company Chevron and associates.

Valued at 373 thousand USD, in addition to the boats, they will deliver various kits of fishing artifacts such as hooks, nets and life jackets, as well as GPS to fishermen in Cabinda and Cacongo.

When speaking at the project opening ceremony, the provincial secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, André Fuca, said that the initiative could contribute to increasing fish catch levels.

As an example, according to the person responsible, last year around 2000 tons of various fish were caught, a substantial increase compared to the same period last year.

André Fuca indicated that the Government of Cabinda remains committed to mobilizing more national and foreign investors to invest in the sector.

The project is being coordinated by the NGO Panafricare which, in addition to providing training, will monitor the fishing activity of members.
