Africa-Press – Angola. The chairman of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the African Union, Miguel Bembe, considered on Sunday that the 7th AU-EU Summit in Luanda is crucial, as it offers opportunities to build a prosperous and sustainable future for Africa and Europe.

The Angolan ambassador was speaking at the opening of the meeting of officials from the African Union and the European Union, who are preparing for the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the two continental organizations.

Miguel Bembe said that the strength of the partnership between the two continents lies in the shared vision, dialogue and collective commitment to multilateralism and sustainable development.

He added that the event also reinforces the commitment to peace and security, as well as to migration and mobility.

“This process also highlights the common desire to consolidate the commitment to multilateralism and establish monitoring mechanisms that allow us to overcome inevitable problems,” he stated. The diplomat cited, as an example, the low rate of implementation of the commitments made and the overcoming of the financing challenges of the partnership at the multilateral level.

He added that this is a relevant path to preserve, at the same time, the importance of bilateral relations between the African Union and its Member States.

He stressed that a future of dignity, opportunity and prosperity is envisioned.

“This will require courage, perseverance and solidarity from each of us so that, as Africa and Europe embark together on this journey, our partnership becomes a symbol of inspiration and leadership for the world,” he emphasized.

He reinforced that the two continents have sought to build a stable and long-term relationship, based on mutual interest, equality and shared responsibility, in full alignment with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, called “The Africa We Want”.

Miguel Bembe also added the political priorities of the European Union and the collective commitment enshrined in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, highlighting Sustainable Development.

The Angolan Permanent Representative to the AU reiterated the fact that European partners, who have always remained faithful to the objectives of cooperation, both with the continental organization and with African countries, are making efforts to contribute to the promotion of development in Africa.

The African Union – European Union Summit is expected to be attended by around two thousand delegates, including Heads of State and Government and representatives of multilateral organizations.

With the motto “Promoting peace and prosperity through effective multilateralism”, the event will be co-chaired by the current President of the African Union, João Lourenço, and the President of the European Council, António Costa.

This initiative, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence, celebrated on the 11th of this month, and with the rotating presidency of the African Union, aims to strengthen the 25 years of cooperation between the two blocs.

The Committee of Permanent Representatives to the African Union (CRP-AU) is a strategic body of the African Union that acts as a link between high-level political decisions and their practical implementation in member states.
