Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said on Friday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, that the effective implementation of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) decisions must be a permanent priority and requires leadership, national coherence and institutional alignment.
The Minister made this statement at the closing session of the 47th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, adding that the event closed ended with the feeling of mission accomplished and the pride of having contributed, collectively, to the strengthening of the continental organization.
The President of the Executive Council of the AU said that the decisions adopted on Friday are governance commitments, moral contracts with the peoples of the continent and an instrument of transformation, so their implementation, with rigor and seriousness, will be the true measure of the success of this meeting.
According to the holder of the Angolan diplomacy portfolio, Africans must refuse the slowness that compromises the results and firmly embrace the political responsibility of giving life to the resolutions that “we ourselves have approved”.
The head of Angolan diplomacy thanked, with particular appreciation, all the members of the African Union who, with professionalism and patience, made possible the full dialogue between the various linguistic geographies of the continent, having been an essential contribution to the success of this important session.
He reiterated his deep gratitude to the authorities of the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and to its sister people, whose hospitality, generosity and African spirit created the ideal environment for the successful realization of the event, in this city of Malabo, a symbol of stability, natural beauty and African dignity.
The 47th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, which took place at the Sisipo International Conference Centre, on the outskirts of Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, was the first since Angola assumed the rotating presidency of this continental organisation.
The meeting approved the draft agenda of the 7th Biannual Coordination Meeting between the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities (ESRB) and the Regional Mechanisms, as well as reviewed the Report of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives.
The ministers discussed the Reports of the Joint Session of the Ministerial Committee on the Evaluation Scale and the Committee of Fifteen (15) Finance Ministers (F15), the Ministerial Committee on African Applications within the International System and the Monitoring of the Implementation of Agenda 2063.
The delegates elected the members of the African Union bodies, namely two (2) AU Commissioners (AUA), and five (5) members of the Consultative Council against Corruption (AUABC).
