Africa-Press – Angola. Angola has adopted one of the best legislations in the field of protecting children’s rights, said, this Friday, in Luanda, the president of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) of the African Union ( UA), Wilson de Almeida Adão.
When speaking in a meeting with the Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, the person in charge said that, despite the quality of Angolan legislation, it is necessary, as in most African states, to implement public policies for the empowerment of families, combating poverty and improving children’s access to education and health.
“We believe that properly structured families are the first factor in protecting children, ensuring that they grow up in a prosperous and healthy environment, which allows for their integrated development. Therefore, every Angolan must be a lawyer, in favor of the children, reinforcing the spirit of constructive citizenship, harmony, common good and being a vehicle for transmitting love to others”, he highlighted.
He condemned the coups d’état and the contestation of electoral results in some African countries, justifying that this situation has created political, economic and social instability on the continent, as well as the interruption of public policies in favor of the defense of human rights.
On the occasion, the person responsible praised the actions of the Ombudsman’s Office in defending and protecting the rights of children, especially victims of sexual abuse, guaranteeing the technical and institutional support of the committee, in order to continue promoting programs for the benefit of children.
He invited the Ombudsman’s Office to be an observer member of ACERWC, in order to represent the country in this AU body.
