Africa-Press – Angola. The authorities of the municipality of Huambo reinforced, this Thursday, the legal culture of the rural population, with approaches around the phenomenon of succession, to prevent situations of expropriation of spouses’ assets in the event of death.

The reinforcement of the legal responsibility of the rural population began in the neighborhood of Calomanda, on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, with the aim of stopping cases of expropriation of the husband’s and/or wife’s assets in the event of death and, consequently, the protection of children’s rights, through strict observance of Angolan Civil Law.

The initiative by the Administration of the municipality of Huambo is part of the “Women’s March” days, under the motto “investing in women to accelerate the country’s social and economic progress”, with a focus on combating these recurring phenomena in communities.

The deputy administrator for the Social, Political and Communities area of ​​the municipality of Huambo, Marta Domingas Mendes Teixeira, said that these legal reinforcement events will be intensified in communities to avoid conflicts, as well as the vulnerability to which they are exposed. children in case of loss of parents.

He said that the work to disseminate Angolan Civil Law involves the involvement of traditional authorities and technicians from the Huambo administration to contribute to changing the mentality of the rural population, as well as seeking values ​​about culture that will promote the humanization of families.

He recommended that women report cases of expropriation of their deceased husband’s assets to widows, with a view to ensuring the well-being of children and, at the same time, how to avoid situations of vulnerability for families in communities.

Marta Mendes Teixeira highlighted the need to combat situations of sexual harassment in homes, where very close relatives rape children, a behavior that has been fatal in the construction of the victims’ personality.

He stated that with the degradation of values ​​and the violation of the Family Code of Conduct, children are harmed, for this reason, local administrative authorities will work to reach all neighborhoods, with the awareness program on strengthening the legal culture of rural population.

For his part, the chief of the Banga neighborhood, Daniel Tchipeta, said that traditional authorities are also engaged in combating these practices of expropriation of spouses’ assets in the event of death through the defense of families affected by the succession phenomenon, protecting the human dignity.

Arão Ekupa, head of the Aviation neighborhood, also on the outskirts of the city of Huambo, promised to multiply information about the succession phenomenon to radically combat cases of child vulnerability.

Simão Pedro Chingui, a resident of the Calomanda neighborhood, said he learned that widows and children can inherit assets of around 50 percent in the event of the death of the father or wife, as explained in Angolan Civil Law.

The municipality of Huambo, one of 11 in the province with the same name, has an estimated population of 934 thousand 127 inhabitants, residing in 433 neighborhoods, distributed in three municipalities, Chipipa, Calima and Sede, the latter with six sectors (Bandeira, Cacilhas , Capango, Nzaji Xavier Samacau and Vilinga).
