Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, considered, this Tuesday, as positive the participation of Angola in the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IUP), which takes place since the 11th in Manama , Kingdom of Bahrain.

Speaking to the press after signing the agreement with the general secretary of the IUP, Martin Chungong, to hold the organization’s 147th assembly in Luanda in October this year, Carolina Cerqueira stressed that the presence of the Angolan parliamentarians was also interactive, as it allowed the exchange of experience and exchange with counterparts from other countries.

“We brought with an inter-party delegation, in which the plurality of AN, gender and generational balance were represented”, he asserted.

Carolina Cerqueira added that the Angolan delegation conveyed an excellent image of Angola. “We convey the image of a country in which women are represented at the highest level in the NA, a country in which youth have a say in the major issues of the international situation, a country in which peaceful and partisan coexistence is a reality . We were able to prove that tolerance, dialogue, concertation are hallmarks of the Angolan parliament”, reinforced Carolina Cerqueira.

According to the President of AN, Angola took the opportunity to present its willingness to be represented at the highest level, in the group of young people, in the group of women, a noted intention and that on future occasions the privilege of being represented may happen.

He added that Angola fulfilled its role of solidarity, of mediator, of a country committed to peace in the Great Lakes region, advocating for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Regarding the global fund to support natural disasters, Carolina Cerqueira stressed that the African Group’s intention is to make a fund available to help all countries that are in a situation of calamity caused by the effects of climate change.

During the 146th General Assembly of the IPU, Angola gathered experiences from the coordination of the meeting in Bahrain, during a meeting between the President of the AN, Carolina Cerqueira, and the President of the Organizing Committee, Jamal Fakhro.

The Angolan delegation took advantage of the moment to collect detailed information about the organization of the event, “drinking” on the experience of Bahrain for the success of the conclave in Luanda.

During the IPU’s general assembly, parliamentarians analyzed the organization’s strategies on climate change, accountability at all levels, as well as transforming speeches into actions to combat climate change.

The approach also included reinforcement of climate legislation to reduce carbon gas emissions and support for a clean energy transition.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union is made up of 178 national parliaments and 12 regional assemblies. It is currently the main parliamentary interlocutor of the United Nations.
