Africa-Press – Angola. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, reaffirmed this Sunday in Manama, capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Angola’s commitment to the promotion and preservation of peace and security worldwide.

Speaking in the afternoon session of the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union, Carolina Cerqueira pointed out dialogue, consultation and respect for the democratic principle of participation by all as solutions to the main problems and bases for understanding and building a reality social fair.

“We must always bear in mind that peace represents a priority in the global agenda for development, social justice, stability and human solidarity”, he stressed.

Carolina Cerqueira mentioned the fact that climate change, the non-equitable distribution of natural resources, knowledge and science, conflicts on multiple scales, including cybercrime and wars on almost all continents, religious and cultural conflicts, poverty , corruption and the lack of transparency contribute to the outbreak of problems and social harm in communities.

As a consequence, he added, the world is currently experiencing a degrading situation of security and well-being, increasing poverty, unemployment, deficient social infrastructure.

“The migration crisis experienced, especially in Europe, with thousands of people who, in desperation in search of better economic conditions and opportunities for social inclusion with more dignity to the human person, sometimes find death in the search for better living conditions,” he said.

According to Carolina Cerqueira, the answer to these problems, which affect peace between peoples and nations, is to transform the important instruments in favor of peace into inviolable, essential and timeless tools to promote the values ​​of human dignity and fundamental human rights. , giving special attention to gender issues and the defense of women’s rights”, asserted Carolina Cerqueira.

Despite recognizing it as a challenging mission, Carolina Cerqueira stressed that parliamentarians have an obligation to contribute, in an incisive way, to the formation of new paths towards the peaceful resolution of the conflicts that still prevail in the world.

He added that selfishness has weakened the foundations of the collective strength of human existence in which the complexity raised by the Covid-19 pandemic continues to challenge the world to think of new ways of building a life in common and the well-being of families, especially of most vulnerable groups.

For the President of AN, it is urgent to increase the values ​​of human solidarity and mutual aid, with a new approach to the phenomena that today underlie the struggles of social movements, the inclusion of minorities, freedom of the press, religion and opinion, to that diversity promotes democracy and social stability in order to affect the peaceful coexistence of humanity.

Carolina Cerqueira defended joint efforts to reach a balanced agreement in the fight against climate change, in order to mitigate and dignify the effects of the natural disasters that proliferate and whose recent events in Turkey and Syria have shaken the world.

According to Carolina Cerqueira, Angola defends the enormous emergence of a new global revolution, the circular economy revolution, with a focus on a more equitable, resilient and inclusive future, based on the protection and environmental conservation of the planet and ecosystems, as well as the use and management sustainable use of resources.

Carolina Cerqueira recognized that the consequences of conflicts, often provoked and motivated by the spirit of intolerance, are more complex in developing countries, where, in many cases, the mechanisms of solidarity and social inclusion are marginalized.

Accordingly, he added, we must, as representatives of the people, continue to defend peace and engage all knowledge in frank and fraternal dialogue, as well as strengthen mechanisms for the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

He highlighted Angola’s contribution in the search for the pacification of various conflicts in Africa, with emphasis on the Great Lakes region and Central Africa, whose interventionist role of President João Lourenço allowed its recognition and distinction, by the African Union, with the title of Peace Champion.

Carolina Cerqueira also expressed solidarity with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Mozambique, whose populations are victims of conflicts and acts of terrorism.

On the other hand, it augurs for the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for more than a year, expressing the desire to achieve peace through a fair comprehensive dialogue, in respect for the sovereignty and integrity of the states to stand end to a war with catastrophic effects and impressive consequences for peaceful coexistence.

Carolina Cerqueira praised the efforts of the IUP in terms of strengthening the role of dialogue in the prevention and peaceful resolution of conflicts in the world.
