Africa-Press – Angola. Fifty million kwanzas is the turnover expected to be achieved at the 9th edition of the Banana Fair, opened yesterday in Panguila by the deputy governor for political, social and economic areas, José Francisco Bartolomeu Pedro.
Speaking on behalf of the provincial governor, Maria Antónia Nelumba, the official said he hoped that this edition would reach more expressive indicators than previous editions.
He spoke about the potential of the region, which has an area of around one million hectares and has various crops practiced by around 70 percent of the population.
The region is rich in water resources, has a vast hydrographic basin made up of 10 rivers, providing water for the population, irrigation and for the production of electricity, he said.
In the province, he stressed, alluvial, river, sandy, black and brown clay and paraferralitic soils predominate.

150 exhibitors from the agricultural, industrial, mining, banking and services sectors are taking part in the event.
These include small farmers, associations, cooperatives from the six municipalities, in addition to the Nova Agrolíder and Turiagro farms.
Products such as bananas, cassava, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, sugar cane, oil palm, among others, are on display at the fair.
Lasting three days, the event will hold lectures on topics related to the agricultural sector.
Currently, the provincial government of Bengo controls 156 peasant associations and 187 cooperatives
The banana fair was established in 2012, had a three-year interregnum, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and is the largest stock exchange in the province.
