Belgian and Spanish businessmen bet 500 million euros on Cuando Cubango

Africa-Press – Angola. Belgian and Spanish businessmen have more than 500 million euros available, the equivalent of 289.134 billion kwanzas, for investments in the next five months in Cuando Cubango, in economic and social projects.

These are investments in road rehabilitation, promotion of agriculture, setting up a mineral water bottling plant, among other productive domain initiatives.

The information was provided to the local press by the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Angola and Belgium (CCIB), Isabel Elisa Soares da Cruz, after the audience granted by the governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins.

The more than 500 million euros are already available for funding, which is expected from the local government, less bureaucracy so that the first actions can start in the next four to five months, which also include the education and health sectors , with the construction of schools and health facilities.

“We have already found funding in Belgium and Spain for the areas of agribusiness, forestry and road rehabilitation, all to improve the business environment and encourage employability”, he assured.

The businesswoman highlighted Cuando Cubango’s potential, pointing out arable land, water resources, an opportunity for the installation of a mineral water bottling plant.

Isabel Elisa Soares admitted that there is a lot of interest on the part of Belgian and Spanish businessmen to invest in Cuando Cubango.

However, the main concern is the lack of access roads to its interior, which makes it difficult to circulate and transport various equipment for the success of the projects.

The shortage in the production and distribution of water, electricity supply, has prevented, according to the president of the CCIAB, greater investments, taking into account the expenses that are made by entrepreneurs, to satisfy these basic social needs in the place of execution of the various works.

One of the main concerns of businessmen in both countries is to invest, in the same way, in the production and processing of coffee, fruits and their packaging for export.

The business class says they have received institutional support from Governor José Martins so that this investment is feasible and allows leveraging the expected development of Cuando Cubango, expecting foreign businessmen to invest in the various potentialities that the province boasts.

He underlined that l lines of financing from banks, especially Standard Bank and Ecobank are available for various initiatives.

Still without an investment ceiling for Cuando Cubango, Isabel Soares guaranteed that the Chamber will work, for two days, with the counterpart of this province, as well as the Cabinet for Integrated Development, to establish the real priorities for that region.

Investment opens partnerships

The acting director of the Cabinet for Integrated Development in the province, Afonso Mucanda, recognized that Cuando Cubango needs more foreign and diversified investment, in the areas of industry, mineral resources, road rehabilitation and promotion of agriculture, to promote employability for young people, essentially, towards the desired development.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Cuando Cubango, Longui Bongo, considered this line of investment to be important, as it will partly resolve the situation of difficult access to the interior, the flow of goods and products, as well as allow for the establishment of a partnership with more than 90 local entrepreneurs currently vetted.
