Africa-Press – Angola. Bengo province has nine guarantees judges working at the Dande District Court, said today, in Caxito, the presiding judge of the said court, José Lobão Cosme.

The magistrate explained that these judges will all work in the municipality of Dande, as there is only one District Court in the province.

He assured that with the expected start-up of the Dembos District Court, which will respond to the Triângulo region, which comprises the municipalities of Dembos, Bula Atumba and Pango Aluquém, one or two guarantee judges will work in this district.

José Cosme said that from now on the guarantees judge will order measures restricting freedom in the procedural instruction phase, a task previously carried out by the Public Ministry (MP), but they do not replace the Public Ministry magistrates who will continue to direct the preparatory instruction.

“With the entry into the role of guarantee judges, the MP no longer applies measures of personal coercion that deprive citizens of fundamental rights and freedoms”, he underlined.

He said that the province of Bengo has only 14 judges and needs at least five more judicial magistrates to reduce the procedural pending.

He referred that the guarantees judge is linked to the criminal area, but we still have the administrative civil room, work and jurisdiction of minors that also need judges.

With regard to crimes of embezzlement, José Cosme, said that there are cases of this nature in the Court of the Comarca of Dande that do not exceed ten cases and that soon it will know its outcome.

The magistrate appealed to citizens for greater collaboration with the justice bodies.
